Biographical

Ken Simon has decades of experience as a judge and litigator. After graduating from law school in 1979, he began his career at a litigation firm in Mobile, Alabama. In 1983, he was one of 13 individuals named as White House Fellows and served as a Special Assistant to Attorney General William French Smith. In that role, he collaborated with the Attorney General and his Chief of Staff, working directly with assistant attorneys general, bureau directors, and other senior Department of Justice officials. Later, as an Assistant Director and Branch Chief of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's Division of Enforcement in Washington, D.C., he oversaw investigations into potential violations of federal securities laws.

Since moving to Birmingham in 1989, he has served as a trial court judge in Jefferson County, Alabama's largest judicial district. He has established a reputation as a skilled litigator, mediator/arbitrator, and advisor to public agencies. He has also contributed to the Birmingham community by serving on the boards of numerous charitable agencies.

Ken is among the most experienced ADR specialists in the Alabama legal community, having mediated hundreds of disputes, served as a panelist for JAMS in Atlanta for arbitration and mediation, and acted as a special master in complex, large-scale cases. He has mediated and arbitrated a diverse range of cases, including securities, business torts, consumer litigation, class actions, product liability, employment litigation, environmental litigation, personal injury, and shareholder disputes.

Mr. Simon is recognized in The Best Lawyers in America for his expertise in Arbitration, Commercial Litigation, Litigation-Securities and Mediation. He has also received the title of Best of the Bar in Alternative Dispute Resolution from the Birmingham Business Journal. Additionally, he holds an AV Preeminent Rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
